Joanie Clothing has launched a limited collection with ITV soap opera, Coronation Street.
Brand Director, Joanie, Lucy:
“‘Corra,’ as it’s affectionately known in our house, was and is a mainstay of family life. Whatever else is going on in the world, good or bad, there’s ALWAYS Coronation Street on in the background. The nation’s favourite TV soap, an institution for us northern folk – I could listen to Audrey Roberts sigh all day long.”
The longest-running continuing TV saga in the world, ‘Corrie’ as the show is affectionately known, has a legacy spanning over 63 years and more than 10,000 episodes. Selling to 135 countries with millions of viewers across the globe, the show has racked up countless accolades including 111 British Soap Awards, 22 National Television Awards, and 9 BAFTAS, and has created TV memories for generations.
Coronation Street, set somewhere in Salford, is a stone’s throw away from Joanie’s offices in Ardwick, Manchester. The team at Joanie was keen to reference some of the most memorable parts of the show in this collection, with nods to the most recognisable businesses on the street as well as some iconic brands from the Coronation Street universe. Every style in the six-piece collection is crafted from a responsible fabric, either organic cotton or LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose, and every piece is named after notable characters and families who have graced the cobbles over the last 63 years.
Brand Director, Joanie, Lucy:
“Working on a collab with Coronation Street has been such fun. I really enjoyed working with the producers to ensure the devil was in the detail – from making sure the window lintels to the famous terrace were perfectly accurate, matching the window graphics in Dev’s corner shop to ensure continuity, to making sure Norris’ paperboy was standing outside the Kabin was a dream job for me.
“We wanted to create wearable, tongue-in-cheek products that would feel like they had come out of a vintage store rather than a gift shop. Our exclusive Coronation Street all-over print was lovingly created to make people take a second look and start a fun conversation when someone notices the details!”
Designed in close collaboration with the Coronation Street team, this limited collection features styles inspired by some of the most iconic locations and brands on the Street. ‘Holdsworth’, a light blue Freshco branded sweatshirt named after eccentric supermarket manager Reginald “Reg” Holdsworth, and ‘Cropper’, a vintage-style ringer tee named after Roy’s Rolls owner, Roy Cropper, are guaranteed to be a hit with fans of the show.
They’ll also be excited to see ‘Gilroy’, a Newton and Ridley Bitter sweatshirt named after the former landlord of the Rovers Return, Alec Gilroy and ‘Tatlock’, a redbrick print knit named after grumpy legend man, Albert Tatlock, included in the range.
With some familiar shapes at the heart of the collection, eagle-eyed Joanie Gals will be pleased to spot bestselling styles Andi and Sharon in an illustrated Coronation Street print, renamed after two dynastic Coronation Street families: the Duckworths and the McDonalds.
The limited Coronation Street X Joanie collaboration range will be available online at www.joanieclothing.com, with selected styles also available in the Coronation Street Tour gift shop. The collection launches online 21st June 2023, priced between £25-£65.
Katy Roberts, Head of Merch & Shops Delivery at Coronation Street:
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Joanie on this retro Coronation Street clothing collection. For many viewers, the show has a warm, nostalgic feeling that perfectly aligns with Joanie’s values. Working with a brand with roots in Manchester was also so important to us, and we couldn’t be more proud of the collection we’ve created together.”
