Channel 5 statement:
“Fans have been asking us when it will be back, so we are delighted to announce that the next episode will be shown during Dementia Awareness Week in May, confirming the specific day and time in the coming weeks. …The last episode will also be scheduled very soon. We want to preserve the series and hope viewers will tune in in May and enjoy watching Anneka and the amazing army of volunteers she gets to join her, in this important – and at times, very emotional – project.”
Rice had also pointed out on social media that the production team of Challenge Anneka knew the four episodes were in a ‘floating schedule’ and could be moved or dropped at any time. “We always knew we were on a ‘floating schedule’ so might be bumped off at any moment. We’ll keep you posted. The main thing for me is the projects are all up and running and I love & salute our army of volunteers who made this possible. Thank you.”
The series was devised as a vehicle for Anneka Rice, who had previously appeared on Treasure Hunt, one of the first big hits for Channel 4 and was piloted in 1987’s edition of Children in Need. The format sees Rice being given a task to accomplish within a certain period, usually two or three days. She was supposed to have no knowledge of what the task of each particular episode would be before it began and would have to organise its accomplishment by persuading companies and people to contribute their time and resources for free.
