OTD 1978: InterCity 125 wins design award

On this Day, April 4th 1978…

British Rail’s then latest high-speed train won a British Council Design Award.

ATV Today’s Bev Smith interview with Peter Gray of British Rail Engineering Ltd about the unique diesel train that can reach speeds of 125mph which costs £1m to build the engine and coaches.

Also, the valuable business and employment the train’s development has brought to Derby. A brief interview with the driver of the train also features. InterCity 125s remain in service with ScotRail, CrossCountry, Great Western Railway and Network Rail.
