Man arrested on suspicion of blackmailing TV presenter
Alison Hammond was allegedly being blackmailed by former friend
Police have arrested a man on suspicion of blackmailing This Morning presenter Alison Hammond.
The arrest came hours after it was revealed in The Sun newspaper that the popular television presenter was allegedly being ordered to hand over money in a blackmail and extortion plot. On Saturday evening, West Midlands police revealed that a 36-year-old male had been arrested at an address in Warwickshire.
The 48-year-old presenter rose to fame after her short-lived appearance on Big Brother in 2002. She joined ITV daytime stalwart This Morning later that year as a roving reporter. She began presenting the Friday edition alongside Dermot O’Leary in January 2021.
Earlier this month it was announced that Hammond would be taking over from Matt Lucas as co-host of Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off.
West Midlands police said that the man remains in custody as the inquiry into the alleged blackmail were “progressing quickly.”
