ITV has pulled the plug on You’ve Been Framed after more than three decades on air.
The show invited viewers to send in home video footage of their pratfalls with a £250 reward for the best ones. The clips were packaged together and shown in the programme with a laughter track dubbed over them.
The show began in the UK in 1990 and was similar to a number of other shows across the world.
Last to First: Jonathan, Lisa and Jeremy – the hosts seen presenting the show from 1990 to 2003
Since 2004 Harry Hill has narrated the clips, but wasn’t seen in-studio as previous hosts had been
It was an instant hit when it debuted with Jeremy Beadle as host. The final episode aired in August last year and was hosted by comedian Harry Hill.
Lisa Riley took over the role as host from Beadle in 1998. Jonathan Wilkes replaced Riley in 2003 before Harry Hill took over in 2004.
A source told The Sun:
“The fact that You’ve Been Framed has been shelved is a sad sign of the times. It’s a different world to Jeremy Beadle’s heyday. Why would viewers tune in to a show featuring funny videos when they could see the same sort of thing on the internet?
“Silly clips are hugely popular on social media and the right video can go viral. There’s a thrill in achieving that — even though you don’t earn the £250 fee which You’ve Been Framed paid for contributions.”
