EyeSpy: We Need A Little Christmas

Noele GordonSince 2002 its become an annual treat for us to celebrate Christmas day by going back to ATV 1979 style when Crossroads – put together by the man who went onto create Neighbours, Prisoner Cell Block H and Sons and Daughters, Reg Watson – provided Britain with its first American-styled daily soap. It didn’t mind laughing at itself, and as it came out of ATV’s entertainment department – not the drama division – it also often broke down the forth wall and invited viewers in to join in.

Here in 1979 we see soap opera’s biggest award winner – Noele Gordon – who from 1967 until 1981 won at least one award per yer – sometimes more than three in a year – turn up the campness, throw away the soap opera rules and in Key of D perform a festive tune.

Merry Christmas from the Crossroads Motel, Birmingham and Noele as Meg Mortimer…

…and Merry Christmas from everyone at ATV Today.
