OTD 1957: A Pancake Ball

On this Day: March 5th, 1957.

ATV Midlands News reported on a Pancake Ball at the West End Ballroom in Birmingham.

The report features ballroom dancing at the popular venue, just off Broad Street in the city centre. The dancing is followed by a marching band of sailors who raise a flag on the dance floor. The Lord Mayor of Birmingham is also seen tossing a pancake.

The West End Ballroom closed in 1965, and made way for a different kind of entertainment – the site became part of the ATV Centre studios.
