Beijing 2022 ‘implementing extensive measures’ for save ‘Covid free’ games

The organisers of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 are implementing extensive measures aimed at ensuring the safe operation of the event due to start on 4 February.

During a recent World Health Organization (WHO) press briefing on COVID-19, the countermeasures being put in place, involving technical advice from WHO, were discussed.

A series of Playbooks have been released by the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee, the IOC and the IPC, in close collaboration with the Chinese authorities, laying out the measures in place to prevent increasing risks in hosting or running the Games.

Masks, social distancing and the usual testing and isolation precautions are just some of the schemes in place.

Scientific experts, sports bodies and WHO have been collaborating closely on the safe and successful staging of large-scale sports events, lessons from which have been built into the Beijing 2022 Playbooks and into the implementation of precautionary measures by the relevant authorities.
