On the 2nd of January, the first journalist to take over and talk about the week’s biggest news stories will be Iwan Griffiths. Iwan is a familiar face on S4C – a correspondent for S4C News and presents highlights programs for the Urdd Eisteddfod for some years.
One of the best-known voices to join the Sunday Morning crew will be Huw Edwards, the chief presenter of BBC News at Ten. Huw has anchored some of the world’s biggest breaking stories during his career with the BBC and, although living in London, has deep roots in Carmarthenshire.
“The opportunity to broadcast regularly on Radio Cymru is a great pleasure – and I look forward to spending Sunday mornings discussing the state of things in the company of fellow Welsh people.” – Huw Edwards
Welcoming back to the station and bringing her incredible experience to the air will be Betsan Powys, presenter of S4C’s People and Her Opinion and former editor of BBC Radio Cymru. Betsan will be a warm and familiar voice on Sunday mornings.
Bethan Rhys Roberts, chief presenter of Wales Live and S4C News will also be one of the five new presenters and hopes to offer some talk and some fun to BBC Radio Cymru’s special listeners.
Also joining the new presentation team will be Elliw Gwawr, BBC Wales Parliamentary Correspondent in Westminster and author of baking books and the Paned a Cake blog. Elliw, originally from Dolgellau, is looking forward to talking about topics beyond politics on the air.
“It’s a privilege to join this talented team of journalists who will succeed Dewi Llwyd on Sunday mornings. Its program has been an important part of many of us weekends. I’m really looking forward to joining people in their homes across Wales to talk about topics big and small, and have the opportunity to discuss more than just politics.” – Elliw Gwawr
Dafydd Meredydd, Head of Welsh Language Services, said:
“What better way to fill the gap that Dewi Llwyd leaves on Sunday mornings on Radio Cymru, than with five presenters I’m confident our audience will be impressed with. All with their individual strengths, but also with a few things in common, including a smart journalistic mind as well as a warm personality and closeness to the audience that listeners of Dewi Llwyd expect and deserve. As we thank him for his tremendous work and wish David well, it was extremely exciting to be able to welcome Bethan, Betsan, Elliw, Huw and Iwan to our family of presenters on Radio Cymru. Good luck to them! ”
