White wine has been voted the UK’s favourite

Wine O’clock dear?

And contrary to the popular phrase ‘it’s 5pm somewhere’, research has found that Brits believe between 6pm – 8pm is the ideal time of day to kick back with a glass of wine (42 per cent). One in four prefer a glass of red and only 14 per cent are partial to a glass of rosé.

But for the times when a traditional wine glass just doesn’t cut it, adults have confessed to drinking out of alternative vessels including a sippy cup, a bowl and even a shoe (two per cent). While one in five admits to drinking theirs out of the chic, “hipster” alternative of jam jars.

The research was commissioned by Sarah Jessica Parker and her Invivo X, SJP Co-founders Tim Lightbourne and Rob Cameron ahead of the release of their award-winning Sauvignon Blanc wine in Tesco stores nationwide and online.

The wine was named by Wine Spectator as one of the Top 100 wines in the world from 10,000’s of wines tasted. It also found 60 per cent of those polled like to enjoy a glass with dinner, with half preferring to indulge in a glass with their partner.

Interestingly, more men prefer to drink with their partner than women do (52 per cent), with 41 per cent of women enjoying a glass on their own, enjoying some ‘me’ time. As it starts to get darker earlier, it’s no surprise that 40 per cent of Brits are most fond of drinking wine at home, with only one in 10 opting to drink out at a restaurant/bar.

To celebrate the new vintage, Sarah Jessica Parker – who has just finished filming the new Sex and the City reboot ‘And Just Like That…’ says of the plonk;

“As always, my partners Tim and Rob really surprised me with the wine samples for this Sauvignon Blanc blend. This is our third vintage so the challenge each year is to make sure our new vintage is as good as previous years, given the love and respect for it from our customers but keeping true to this year’s grapes.

“It has an incredible fragrance along with a unique taste and mouth-feel but is still in-keeping with the style of a Sauvignon Blanc, which I’ve found can be more flexible than I originally thought.”

The SJP Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand can be purchased at Tesco stores nationwide as well as via Ocado, winedelivered.co.uk and Harvey Nichols.
