Ahead of their return to ITV’s This Morning later today hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby share their excitement of getting back to the daytime studios and explain why winning a National Television Award this year would be extra special.
Phillip said:
“It’s nice to have a bit of time off over the summer to catch up with friends and family and I love getting out in the garden and pouring a gin and tonic… But I love working so I never get holiday blues. I always look forward to getting back to a new series, I’m always happy to get back to work.”
Holly added:
“Time with my family over the summer is the best, but I always look forward to seeing my second family back at This Morning. The return in September is always quite an exciting time to learn about what we’ve got coming up over the next year and it amazes me how the team always come up with new and fresh ideas every time.”
Some of these new ideas will include brand new filmed content with screen legend Nigel Havers who will be interviewing a host of his celebrity friends over lunch, newly-wed chef Clodagh McKenna will take viewers on a tour of her native Ireland, Julia Bradbury is going to take a closer look at Britain’s favourite forests, Josie Gibson will be taking on her most extreme challenges yet, and will also be teaming up with Alison Hammond for Dosh On Your Doorstep where viewer will get the chance to win extra cash prizes EVERY DAY during Phillip and Holly’s first week back!
Despite This Morning having won ten consecutive National Television Awards, Phillip and Holly have also revealed how much they still appreciate viewers voting for the show and why it would be extra special to win the coveted Best Daytime award this year.
“With the NTAs, it’s always a big one because it’s a public vote so that’s an important one. There are no stuffy panels, the great thing about the NTAs is that it’s voted for by people who have been with us all the way throughout the pandemic and I think this year more than ever it’ll mean a lot to the team because it really was almost like a wartime spirit, that sort of hunkering down and a ‘we’ll be OK, we can get through this’ type of spirit. So I think this year more than ever, it really would mean a lot to the team…” – Phillip
This Morning is currently achieving its highest audience share of viewing in 14 years, year to date, thanks to covid, and will see the return of Phillip and Holly hosting Monday to Thursday’s and Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary hosting Fridays.
“The NTA’s are such an important award for us as they are voted for by the viewers. When we know viewers have taken time to vote for This Morning it’s always such a boost for the whole team. It really means the world to us and we are so grateful for every single vote. And I think this year actually, it’d mean even more like Phillip said, because it has been the most extraordinary year and everyone involved in the show worked twice as hard to ensure we could stay on air. It has been fantastic to have gained some new viewers during that time but trust me, we needed them for company just as much as they were needing us during the lockdowns too.” – Holly
