Channel 5 celebrate the world of Cilla Black

Tonight Download Reloaded takes us back to some festival highlights on Sky Arts.

While we will have to wait at least another year for the return of the festival season, Sky has dug into their archive to bring us a weekend celebrating the best moments of the headbanging rock festival ‘best bits’ between 2011 and 2019, featuring Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Def Leppard and Halestorm.

Tomorrow night Channel 5 treats us to the life and times of singer and telly presenter Cilly Black in The One and Only: Our Cilla.

The story of Cilla Black, who rose from working-class roots in Liverpool to become one of the nation’s most successful and best-loved singers, presenters, and all-around entertainers. Using rare and never-before-seen footage and interviews with friends and colleagues, the programme reveals just what made Cilla the woman she was, and what she was really like behind the scenes.

Cilla is best known in recent times as the face of ITV weekends, with hit shows including The Moment of Truth, Blind Date and Surprise Surprise! however, in the sixties she was the most successful female pop artist of the decade with number ones including You’re My World and Anyone Who Had a Heart. In the late sixties, she ventured onto TV with her own variety series on the Beeb then switched to ITV where she tried her hand at anything, including her own sketch series.

With contributions by Alex and Sue Tatham, the first-ever Blind Date couple to get married, as well as Michael Grade, Christopher Biggins, Gloria Hunniford and Andrew Lloyd-Webber Channel 5 look into the world of Liverpool’s most famous red-haired personality.

Episode eight brings us the final part of Dawn to Dusk as the journey of the camera takes viewers to the arid climes of Arabia, where the animal kingdom answers to one true ruler – the merciless golden orb in the sky.

Those that survive here must bow to his command and withstand its fury on Arabia’s scorched sands until monsoons bring relief. But animals from rugged dromedary camels, to illusionist lizards, to adorable rock hyraxes have special adaptations to beat the desert heat.

Also on Sunday ITV revisit Tipping Point, the show that has made a telly success of the seaside coin machines. Two more edge-of-your-seat end games, packed with dramatic drops and jackpot jeopardy. Hosted by Ben Shephard this edition concentrates on the final round where it really is all to play for and often comes down to the star coin and will it, or won’t it fall?

Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals, ITV, STV, UTV, Sunday, June 6, 7.35 pm

In our Aussie soaps, this week over in Neighbours Paul’s plot unravels and Nicolette opens the door to a new beginning. Ned comes close to crossing the line with Sheila C and Bea finds herself trapped.

Ned worries about his relationship with Yashvi and Kyle tries to overcome the embarrassment of a gnarly injury. Roxy struggles to accept her loss and Toadie finds himself with more than love on the line. Harlow makes a heartbreaking goodbye and Toadie finds his betrayer.

While Home and Away finds that Leah is hellbent on finding Susie. Ziggy is stunned when Dean reveals the reason behind Amber and Jai’s departure. Leah’s determination to find Susie causes
problems with her relationship. Sienna lays down the law to Nikau and Bella, and a drunken tarot card reading goes awry.

Tori is shocked by Christian’s reckless behaviour, and Ryder angers Alf.

Also, this week on Tuesday David Schwimmer and Nick Mohammed return for a second series of highly confidential chaos in Intelligence. After narrowly avoiding extradition to the United States on charges of treason, NSA agent Jerry Bernstein (Schwimmer) finds himself the centre of attention once again when the Russians obtain a cyberweapon that Jerry himself helped develop.

With his intel vital to the safety of the nation, he is more than willing to once again step into the role of the office alpha male and save the day. But with the stakes so high and with him still facing demons from his past, can he avoid a  national disaster.

Then in the second episode of the new series, the threat from the Russians still looms large. A member of the team is exposed as a CySec mole, but unbeknownst to the others is actually working as a triple agent for Christine. More pressingly for Jerry and Joseph, it’s Valentine’s Day – and they’re more concerned about finding their secret admirers than protecting national security.

Intelligence, Sky One, Tuesday, June 8, 10 pm

On Thursday ITV head to Bond Street.

Bond Street has been London’s most exclusive shopping street for 300 years. The glamorous half-mile between Oxford Street and Piccadilly boasts more luxury brands and more royal warrants than any other in Britain. It’s the place to go if you want a £20,000 handbag, a £250,000 watch or a multi-million-pound diamond. But who buys a designer bag in a pandemic?

As Bond Street battled to survive three lockdowns, it agreed to allow director Michael Waldman’s cameras in, to exclusively film behind the scenes with everyone from Dior and British jewellers Boodles to auction house Bonhams and royal chocolate maker Charbonnel et Walker.

Narrated by actress Jenna Coleman, the opulence is staggering. With revealing insights, from the Queen’s favourite chocolates to how one man occupies a prime Bond Street flat once lived in by spy Guy Burgess on a shoestring rent, this programme offers a unique glimpse into what the super-rich have been spending their money on in a pandemic which is said to have made them 25% super-richer.

On Friday, Jools Holland welcomes British comedian, writer and music lover Romesh Ranganathan, for Later with… Jools Holland.

Making her debut on this week’s show is bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer Emma-Jean Thackray, who is a key artist and trumpet player on the London contemporary Jazz scene. Filmed at the Round Chapel in Hackney, Emma-Jean will be performing her new single Say Something – the first track to be lifted from her forthcoming second album Yellow, which will be released via her own Warp Records-affiliated label, Movementt. It’s a record she approached “by trying to simulate a life-changing psychedelic experience”.

Also returning to the show, filmed at the Real World studios in Bath, is the legendary Van Morrison, who shares a number from his recently released 42nd studio album, entitled Latest Record Project Volume 1. It is a double album of 28 new songs that sees the king of Celtic Soul write a straight-talking commentary on contemporary life and delve into his ongoing love of blues, R&B, jazz and soul.
