Sally Dynevor reflects on breast cancer diagnosis

Sally Dynevor reflects on breast cancer diagnosis

The Coronation Street actress was diagnosed with the disease in 2009.

It was her fictional namesake being diagnosed with the disease that prompted her to go for the fateful check-up. Ten years on Dynevor is still coming to terms with what she went through but is set to mark the milestone passage of time since her diagnosis by climbing Mount Everest.

“I still haven’t come to terms with having breast cancer,” the actress told OK!. “I just can’t believe it happened to me. It’s mainly the fear. I’ve locked it away and shoved it to the back of my mind, probably for self-preservation. But I’m going to walk up those mountains getting rid of all those boxed up feelings as I go.”

Dynevor has played Sally in the ITV soap since 1986 and admits that she couldn’t watch the recent storyline where Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn) lost her battle with cervical cancer as it brought back bad memories for her.

“You don’t ever stop thinking about it. That’s why I couldn’t watch Sinead’s final scenes on Corrie. It brought back all those emotions. I could feel what she was feeling.”

She added: “You want to live as you and not be labelled as a cancer patient but more recently I’ve realised that I do need to talk about my experience because it helps raise awareness and lets others know they’re not alone.”
