Editor Reports: New V – Dead in the Water?

The future certainly doesn’t look bright for the much hyped ABC remake of V, the classic 1980s mini-series, as the broadcaster announces it’ll only show four episodes of the remake this year – the rest will follow next year. Sounds to ATV Reports’ editor Doug Lambert as if ABC has lost confidence in the remake.

First it was announced that production on the remake had temporarily shut down. Now it’s emerged that ABC will only air four episodes of V this year with the remaining nine to air next year at some point; but it’s also being rumoured that ABC cut down the number of episodes its ordered. While ABC and Warner Brothers, who are producing the remake, are both denying this it still can’t be ruled out as a possibility.

Production is reportedly due to start up again on V soon but it all sounds like, to me anyway, that ABC is losing confidence in its remake. Although the pilot has been well received by those who have seen it and there’s a lot of hype surrounding the production everything else that is going on seems as if ABC doesn’t think the show will rate well with viewers. We wouldn’t be surprised if V found itself cancelled before it even aired.
