Editor Reports: Who is Michael Grade trying to fool?

ATV Today’s editor Doug Lambert ponders a recent comment made by ITV boss Michael Grade in this edition of ATV Reports.

In a speech recently about the cut backs at ITV Michael Grade pledged to spend the Network’s budget more efficiently but also claimed ITV don’t air programmes viewers don’t want to watch. Oh really? We can think of a wide range of programmes ITV aired that the viewers don’t want to watch!

Just who is Michael Grade trying to fool, himself maybe? ITV aren’t in the habit of airing programmes viewers don’t want to watch? Oh really! What about Echo Beach or Harley Street? Britannia High or The Palace? Demons or The Whistleblowers? Honest or Rock Rivals? The Royal Today or Teenage Kicks?

Does Michel Grade remember any of these flop shows from the past twelve months or so that all flopped. They may have started well but soon saw figures plummet as viewers switched channels looking for decent to watch. Perhaps Grade needs to be sat down in front of a TV and shown DVD’s of all those listed dramas to refresh his memory.
