Start your day with the The Morning Wire, ATV Today’s very own live breakfast blog with Shaun Linden. Including BREAKING NEWS on BBC Trust announcement.
08:00: Hello and a very good morning if you are reading this live, or good day to you if you read this throughout the day as I know many of you do. News this morning is dominated by the arrival of the Pope, and is set to be over the next four days.
BBC One has live coverage starting at 10.05am; meanwhile Sky News will have wall to wall coverage. One hopes that Kay Burley does not get in sight of the Pope, for reasons which can be seen by typing her name into Google or YouTube, although it would make for great viewing!
I am going to be doing this differently this morning, latest updates will be in order – so when you refresh they will appear UNDER this post, i hope it will make for better reading. So remember to scroll the page!
The big news yesterday we reported on ATV Today was the announcement that Bravo and Channel One (Virgin TV) are to close down. Also the big news on the web was Kieron Richardson coming out on ITV’s This Morning, which we also reported on. He gave this reaction on his Twitter account:
“thanks read all messages and means alot… the only negative 2 people are bizzarly gay, but like i said its naturally normal, not a joke”

08:29: Soap Picture Of The Day, today from Emmerdale
08:40: On BBC Four tonight is ‘The Road To Coronation Street’, which charts the origins of how the nations favourite soap and best loved programme came to be on air. 09:13: Some young WI Ladies (don’t quote me on that!) singing Wonderful World on BBC Breakfast. Finished with “It’s on Amazon by the way”, got to keep up the plugs!
You may or may not know but ITV’s Daybreak has not set the ratings alight, and although it’s still new it was hoped that the new signings would bring in more viewers, it has but very minimal. A The SUN TV Biz poll yesterday revealed that a lot of viewers miss the old presenters of GMTV and the “warmth” of the studio.
Our new weekly poll will be asking should ITV bring back GMTV, so get voting from tomorrow.
09:16: BREAKING NEWS : On the Sky News ticker, the BBC Trust are saying that the TV Licence fee is to be FROZEN for two years at its current level.

This would mean taking an estimated £144m out of planned BBC budgets.
Under the terms of the current multi-year settlement, the BBC is entitled to a two per cent increase in 2011/12, with the amount for 2012/13 to be determined within the range of zero to two per cent.”
