Sky Max call full time on A League of their Own

After fifteen years Sky’s sports comedy panel show is set for one final run of episodes…

The BBC revamped A Question of Sport to be more like it – and killed the show – Sky revived Fantasy Football League to compliment the offering, while A League of their Own went through several changes, from host to team captains, it has always remained on the winning streak. Now after twenty series the format has had its final whistle blown by Sky Max.

“The team will begin filming its farewell series in Manchester this August — in front of its largest live audiences to date — ahead of airing on Sky Max and streaming on NOW later this year.”Sky

Romesh Ranganathan will return to host the 20th anniversary series, alongside team captains Jamie Redknapp and Jill Scott, and series regular Micah Richards.

Launched in 2010, the award-winning A League of Their Own has become one of Sky’s most successful and enduring entertainment formats. Over 15 years and 20 series, it has delivered unforgettable moments, gravity-defying challenges, and unbeatable banter — with a star-studded guest list that has included everyone from Premier League legends and Olympic champions to Hollywood A-listers and pop icons.

The 20th series will celebrate everything that has made the show such a hit — with more laugh-out-loud games, surprise guests and sporting chaos — all culminating in a joyful send-off to a truly iconic TV series.

Phil Edgar-Jones, Executive Director of Original Unscripted at Sky:

“Series 20 is the perfect opportunity to celebrate everything A League of Their Own has achieved and to give it the send-off it truly deserves. We’re incredibly proud of the show — it’s been a cornerstone of Sky’s entertainment line-up for fifteen years and has delivered endless laughter, heart, and unforgettable moments. Huge thanks to the brilliant team at CPL Productions and to our fantastic on-screen line-up — Romesh, Jamie, Jill and Micah — who continue to bring such energy and chemistry to the show.”

The series launched with James Corden as host and has seen many regular faces including Jack Whitehall, Freddie Flintoff and John Bishop along the way.

Murray Boland, Creative Director, CPL Productions said of its end, “The first episode of A League of Their Own was broadcast in March 2010. The idea we’d still be making the show in 15 years’ time, having also made nine series of ALOTO Road Trips and won two BAFTAs would’ve sounded totally impossible. It’s been an incredible journey. We would like to thank all the amazing performers, guests and sports stars for all the laughs and inspiration. We’d also like to thank all the brilliant people who’ve worked so hard on the production team and crew.

“Thank you to Sky for allowing us the privilege of making the show and a huge thank you to the fans who have watched and supported the show over the years.”

More details about the final series and guest talent line-up will be revealed soon.
