Take a step back to the 1970s…
5’s weekends in the seventies continues this weekend with a trip back in time as they remember the precious products from the 1970s that meant so much to us. Narrated by Hayley Tamaddon and featuring Susan Calman, Vanessa Feltz, Richard Blackwood, Isla St Clair and Christopher Biggins, The 70s: Things We Loved and Lost celebrates the must-have toys, cutting edge tech, tastes and even the smells from that most chaotic and colourful of decades!
Vanessa’s Charlie…
From Jackie magazine to the Camberwick Green annual; Angel Delight to Cheese and Pineapple on a stick; the On the Buses board game to the simple pleasures of the Viewmaster. Vanessa Feltz recalls her days of teenage snogging and how spraying herself with Charlie perfume was a big part of that.
When Smash was small cubes in a tub…
Farmers Rob and Dave Nicholson go head-to-head in the great Buckaroo challenge. Susan Calman remembers looking up her teachers’ addresses in the phone book and is stunned by the entries in Jackie magazine’s ‘Cathy and Claire‘ problem page. Richard Blackwood explains his mother’s disapproval of 70s convenience food and, five decades on, finally gets to try some Smash.

Penny’s Clackers…
Isla Sinclair has fond memories of that time capsule of 70s treasure that was The Generation Game conveyor belt. It was the decade when Carrie Grant was an avid player of Kiss Chase, Penny Smith was an expert at Clackers and Liza Goddard was painting everything brown!
David Grant recalls spending his pocket money on Dial-a-Disc and demonstrates his cassette tape rescue skills. While Cheryl Baker remembers her mum’s phone voice and how, as a teenager, both she and her boyfriend splashed the ‘great smell of Brut’ all over.
Robert’s Chopper…
Robert Elms sings the praises of the Chopper bike; Christopher Biggins extols the virtues of the Rotary phone; while Vicki Michelle enjoys classic ads for R White Lemonade and Hai Karate aftershave.
