On this Day 1959: Stratford upon Avon ‘The Shakespeare pull’
OTD, April 9th 1959…
Jenny Martin interviewed people on the street in Stratford upon Avon in Warwickshire about tourism and attending the theatre for ATV’s Midland Montage series.
The feature includes children talking about the Shakespeare they are reading at school.
Jenny then interviews various people out on the streets including a man who would rather go and see the Crazy Gang than Shakespeare, a taxi driver who does well with the tourist trade and another local man who attends the theatre regularly. Later Jenny talks to the ‘oldest living Shakespearean actor’ Mr C. Rivers-Gadsby.
