The Shard to show hourly time display to mark BST

Timely light show…

Next Sunday, The Shard will light up London as the clocks spring forward, ushering in a new era of timekeeping with a sparkling hourly display. Beginning Sunday 30th March, the city’s tallest building will pulse with light from sunset until 1am each night, marking the hour and celebrating the start of British Summer Time.

As the sun sets, the top 20 storeys will illuminate 575 LED units in a striking light exhibit. Relighting hourly until 1am, the display will then transition to a low-power mode ensuring the iconic beacon shines throughout the night.

The Shard aims to create a legacy for London through a truly unique display. Towering over 1,000ft above sea level, the iconic building will become the UK’s tallest illuminated timekeeper, solidifying its place in the London skyline and becoming an enduring symbol of the city.

The Shard at 310m high (1,016 ft), is Europe’s first vertical city. Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, it comprises a 26-floor office complex, six world-class bars and restaurants (aqua shard, Oblix, Hutong, TĪNG, GŎNG and Bar 31), a 19-floor five-star hotel (Shangri-La) and the UK’s highest viewing gallery (The View from The Shard).
