The awards took place at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London tonight (Wednesday 19th March), the fourth annual British Diversity Awards. Faye Tozer, Shaun Wallace and Tamzin Outhwaite supported the star-studded event, hosted by broadcaster and journalist Charlene White, alongside NHS Doctor and BAFTA award-winning presenter Dr Ranj Singh. The evening celebrated Diversity, Equity and Inclusion by recognising and bringing together individuals and organisations who continually strive to make workplaces and society more inclusive for all, spearheaded by trailblazing icon and founder of the British Diversity Awards Linda Riley.
The awards opened with a powerful keynote speech from June Sarpong OBE before disco sensation Boney M kicked off celebrations with performances of their hit songs ‘Daddy Cool’, ‘Rasputin’ and ‘Sunny’ before the esteemed awards were presented to the winners.
Christine McGuinness won the prestigious Media Champion of the Year award, praised for her advocacy for Autism and ADHD, highlighting her experience as a mother with autism and autistic children in her BBC documentary Christine McGuinness: Unmasking My Autism.
Cindy Ngamba, the historic recipient of the first ever medal for the Refugee Olympic Team for Boxing, won the award for Athlete Powering Positive Change, as she uses her platform to continue the fight for refugees all over the world.
The coveted Company of the Year award, sponsored by National Grid was snapped up by Monzo, whilst elsewhere Nationwide Building Society’s Enable Network won the Outstanding Ability Network of the Year award, sponsored by Allianz Commercial.
Barratt Redrow’s Gemma Webb won Head of Diversity of the Year, and Centrica’s Kat Parsons took home the Inspirational Role Model of the Year award in the categories that celebrate the individuals setting the standards for others to follow to promote their values of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion across their workplace.
Sky UK LTD were crowned Diversity Team of the Year, with EDF Energy’s Women’s Network winning Outstanding Women’s Network of the Year, and E.ON’s LGBT+ And Friends securing the win for Outstanding LGBTQIA Network of the Year in a triumphant night for diversity, equity and inclusion everywhere.
