Celebrity voices not suited to giving us digital route information…
A survey has revealed which celebrity voices UK motorists would find most annoying in a sat-nav, with nearly a third (31%) choosing Donald Trump — the equivalent of 13 million drivers, with over 42 million UK driving licence holders.
Conducted by leading UK vehicle lease firm Select Car Leasing, the survey of a range of UK driving licence holders reveals which well-known voices Brits would be least willing to take guidance from while driving. Donald Trump’s tendency for exaggeration and off-script remarks may explain why many drivers find his voice the most ill-suited for navigation, where clarity and precision are key.
The results also reflect a broader public perception of Trump, suggesting that a significant portion of UK drivers view his tone as too overbearing for a setting that requires calm and concise instructions. UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer ranked second on the list (20%), followed by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson (27%) and billionaire businessman Elon Musk (14%), who also serves as a Senior Advisor to the President of the United States.
Graham Conway, Managing Director of Select Car Leasing, comments:
“One thing these well-known figures have in common is their connection to politics, which may play a role in why they’re an unpopular choice for sat-nav voices. The idea of being directed by a political figure could be off-putting for motorists, who might prefer a voice that feels more neutral, calm, and reassuring on the road.”
