Hayley Tamaddon ponders stars of The Street…

Former Coronation Street star Hayley Tamaddon – who played Andrea Beckett – has told Heart Bingo that it would be “amazing” if Ryan Thomas returned to the show. “If Ryan Thomas were to return to Coronation Street, it would be amazing!” she said. “I adore Ryan – I always have. He was such a big supporter of me when I was on Corrie.

“When you first start in a soap, there’s always someone who puts their arm around you and says, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll help you with this.’ Ryan was that person for me… If he goes back, good for him! But if he doesn’t, he’s got an incredible career ahead of him either way.” Ryan is set to briefly return to the cobbles as Jason Grimshaw as part of his on-screen mother’s departure. Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen, announced she’d quit the series last year.

With the recent dramas focusing on David Platt, including this week bringing on his own attempted hit-and-run murder (don’t ask it’s a long story) Hayley added that the potential departure of David – actor Jack P. Shepherd – from the near 65-year-old saga would be “so sad” and that she hopes David stays on the show.

“I really hope David survives on the show! Imagine Coronation Street without David Platt – it would be so sad and wouldn’t really feel the same in my opinion. Jack Shepherd is an actor I absolutely adore. He’s brilliant, and if he ever did leave Corrie, the world would be his oyster. He’s such a talented actor, and I have no doubt he’d thrive in anything he does.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8 pm on ITV1 and STV.
