In honour of International Women’s Day, Opal22 Arts and Edutainment will be hosting “Talk Dirty, Paint Pretty: A Night for Us”, an intimate celebration of Black womanhood.
This special event will take place on 7th March, 2025, from 7 pm to Midnight at Abbey Sports & Leisure Centre. “Talk Dirty, Paint Pretty” is more than just an evening out, it’s a sanctuary where Black women can come together to laugh, share, create, and connect in a space designed exclusively for them. With a dynamic mix of comedy, poetry, art, and engaging conversation, this event promises an atmosphere filled with joy, reflection, and unfiltered sisterhood.
“Black women deserve spaces where they can simply be. To laugh without reservation, to share their truths, and to celebrate themselves,” says Tara Munroe, Creative Director of Opal22 Arts and Edutainment. Born and raised in Leicester, Munroe has long been a trailblazer in creating spaces for open dialogue and cultural expression for Black and marginalised communities across the city. “This is a night by Black women, for Black women. Proud, unapologetic, and unfiltered.”
From side-splitting stand-up performances to evocative poetry and opportunities for creative expression, “Talk Dirty, Paint Pretty” promises to be a vibrant and heartfelt tribute to the resilience and brilliance of Black womanhood.
What to Expect:
- Comedy by Sharifa Butterfly: A powerhouse of humour and social commentary, who will bring humour to the shared experiences of Black women.
- Poetry by Cheri Gillings: A dynamic spoken word artist whose work centres on the wellness and complexity of womanhood.
- ‘Just Between Us Girls’ Talk: An honest and unfiltered interactive panel discussion that explores the nuances of Black womanhood.
- Creative Keepsakes: Guests will get to create a piece that’s as bold and beautiful they are
- After Party: DJ Selectress will close the night with an electrifying set that will bring us together on the dance floor to celebrate, connect, and let loose.
