The London Eye celebrates 25th Anniversary with specially commissioned short film

Turning 25: London’s Eye…

The London Eye announces the production of a short film, “Turning 25: London’s Eye” to commemorate its 25th anniversary which falls on 9th March. This film is not only a celebration of the iconic landmark, but a love letter to the city it has come to represent.

The film explores how the famous structure has become more than its parts. It has transformed into the icon of the skyline, a symbol of London to all who visit the capital and for Londoners who call it home. Since it originally opened to celebrate the millennium, it has become an emblem of perspective, offering an unrivalled view above the busy bustling city, reflecting where we’ve been and where we’re going.

Directed by Nate Camponi and made by Chief Productions, the film will feature stunning visuals and captivating storytelling that highlight the journey of the London Eye, from its conception to becoming one of the most iconic visitor attractions in the world.

The film will include heartfelt stories from people of different walks of life, talking about the legacy the wheel represents; from Julia Barfield, one half of the architectural team who dreamed it up and made it happen, to celebrity voices including British actors David Harewood and Russell Tovey. These intimate interviews will showcase personal and profound moments that have taken place over the past quarter-century, and why London holds such significance to them.

Through a blend of archival footage and contemporary scenes, the film will illustrate how the London Eye has evolved and maintained its status of iconicity, innovation, and resilience over the last 25 years.

The London Eye has always been more than just a cantilevered observational wheel; it is a beacon of London’s spirit and dynamism. This film aims to capture the essence of its impact on the city’s landscape and what it has come to stand for over the past 25 years.

Turning 25: London’s Eye will be released to the public ahead of the official anniversary on Sunday 9th March.
