Celebrate Cornwall’s Rich History at A Monumental Celebration…
Cornwall’s heritage takes centre stage this half-term as Cornwall National Landscape’s ‘A Monumental Improvement’ project invites you to A Monumental Celebration, a series of special events open to the public designed to honour Cornwall’s incredible Monumental Improvement project.
Iain Rowe, Monumental Improvements Activities Officer:
“This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all the hard work that’s gone into protecting Cornwall’s historic monuments. We want to thank all the volunteers and partners for being a part of this project.”
The first event will take place on Saturday, 15th February at Kresen Kernow, Redruth. This free, drop-in celebration starts at 1pm and offers something for everyone – families, budding young archaeologists and history enthusiasts alike.
Highlights of the Kresen Kernow Event include an exhibition of Achievements. Admire breathtaking James Innerdale watercolour illustrations, 360° panoramic displays and digital reconstructions of Cornwall’s historic monuments. Also, Young Archaeologists’ Activities. Explore beneath the surface – a chance to discover geophysics results with our Project Archaeologist.
Future celebration events will see on Saturday 1st March at St Breward Village Hall, 10am: A cosy coffee morning with stunning exhibitions and the premiere of two films about King Arthur’s Hall. And on Wednesday 19th March – An afternoon tea from 2pm – 4pm at The Cornish Camel Barn, Rosuick Organic Farm.
The Monumental Improvement project, primarily funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, included a three-year delivery phase dedicated to protecting 40 scheduled monuments listed on the Heritage at Risk Register or classified as vulnerable, to be better identified, supported and enjoyed by a wider range of people by this year.
The project was also made possible with support from key partners including Historic England, National Trust, Cornwall Heritage Trust and Cornwall Archaeological Society.
The Monumental Improvements team are also looking for volunteers to help install signage and nest boxes to help habitat grow around the 40 monument sites.
