Can Elon Musk Rule the World? asks Channel 4

ITN Productions for Channel 4 bring the documentary to screen early next month…

Presented by Channel 4 News anchor, Matt Frei, the hour-long programme analyses the rise and rise of the world’s most infamous tech billionaire Elon Musk, to ask ‘What is it that he really wants? More money, power, to rule the world?’ With unparalleled access to the US Presidency, his ‘first buddy’ Donald Trump, Elon Musk is in a unique position to influence national and international policy. And it’s an influence many suspect him of asserting.

Louisa Compton, Head of News and Current Affairs and Specialist Factual and Sport at Channel 4:

“Elon Musk – tech titan, oligarch, the saviour of humanity or a genuine threat to democracy? This timely film will explore Musk’s ideologies and ask what the most powerful man in the world is going to do next.”

Reacting to Musk’s recent involvement in British politics and the game-changing image of Musk standing behind Trump at the Inauguration, ITN Productions’ documentary asks should we be concerned about what has been described as Musk and Trump’s tech-bro oligarchy or will this herald a new age of progress for the USA?

Can Elon Musk Rule the World? is the latest ITN Productions commission for Channel 4 that gives context and analysis to world events as they are unfolding. Most recently, ITN Productions delivered Inferno: LA on Fire and Trump v Harris: The Battle for America, both fast-turnaround, premium documentaries for Channel 4.

Jeremy Daldry, ITN Productions Deputy Head of UK Factual:

“Turning around deep dive analysis of shifting world events is ITN Productions’ area of expertise, and you don’t get much bigger, more current or more changeable than Elon Musk.”

Frei has covered US politics for decades and examines what Elon Musk might be planning for America, the UK and the world. From reports of Musk sitting in on calls between Trump and Zelensky, to using his own social media platform X to fire incendiary comments about Britain and its Government, Musk has already shown himself as a man with plan, but what is it, and where do his ambitions really lie?

And why has his interest suddenly turned to the UK and can he exert influence over our political system? Does he want to help shape the future of America and Western society, or are his aims even higher? Pundits and political commentators, even outgoing President Biden, are now talking openly about Musk and Trump’s America as a tech-bro oligarchy – should we be concerned, or will this herald a new age of progress?

The documentary was executive produced by Deputy Head of UK Factual ITN Productions, Jeremy Daldry. Producer directors were Chris Hackett and Sarah MacFarlane, and producer, Gabriel Radus. Post-production was by ITN Post. It was commissioned by Louisa Compton, Head of News and Current Affairs and Specialist Factual and Sport at Channel 4.
