On this Day 1977: Sheep dog learning French

OTD, January 28th 1977…

It would be enough to get Del Boy Trotter of Only Fools and Horses saying ‘Boeuf à la mode‘ – you win some, you lose some – in his interpretation of the French language as back in 1977 Shepherd Keith Reynolds was training a sheep dog to understand instructions given in French.

While in Del Boy speak it all sounds very ‘Bonnet de douche’ (impressive) the reality was more ‘Chateauneuf du Pape’ (gone a bit wrong).

ATV Today reporter Bob Hall interviewed Keith about how the progress of the four-legged language lessons were going. The answer – not very well. ‘Mon dieu!’
