Vilnius to host BBC World Questions

BBC World Questions will come to Vilnius early next month…

The programme will be recorded on Tuesday, 4th of February to bring together the public and leading figures to discuss the future of the country.  The panel line up includes Dovilė Šakalienė, Minister of Defence and Member of the Seimas for the Social Democratic Party, Ingrida Šimonytė, Former Prime Minister and Member of the Seimas for the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats also Ignas Vėgėlė, Former Presidential Candidate and Member of the Seimas for Farmers and Greens Union and Andrius Tapinas, Journalist, Author and Founder of Freedom TV.

In the wake of the recent election, this is a crucial opportunity to hear from the public on the issues affecting them. It has been called the NATO frontline, and three years after the invasion of Ukraine, Lithuanians want to make sure their country is not next. Defence spending is rising fast, Germany has committed a permanent brigade and Lithuania is breaking free of the Russian power grid.

The recent election also highlighted immigration, rising prices, public services and inequality. Jonny Dymond and a high power panel debate Lithuania’s biggest issues with an audience at the Palace of the Grand Dukes in Vilnius.

BBC World Questions will be recorded in English in front of a live audience on Tuesday 4 February 2025.
