Kim Woodburn would clean up in The Celebrity Traitors

A former participant of BBC One’s The Traitors has cast his view on who could make it big on the celebrity series…

The Traitors’ Paul Gorton, who featured in the second series, has revealed his dream casting for a celebrity edition of the Beeb show to Heart Bingo, suggesting names like Kim Woodburn, Maura Higgins, and Joe Wilkinson.

Paul Gorton:

“I’d love to see someone like Kim Woodburn in The Celebrity Traitors. She has such a fiery personality, and it would be fascinating to see how that dynamic plays into the game. Someone like Love Island’s Maura Higgins would be incredible—she’s no-nonsense, fiercely independent, and would be a real force to reckon with.

“Joe Wilkinson would be another standout choice. If you’ve seen him on shows like Taskmaster, you know how unassuming he is. But beneath that, he’s exceptionally smart and charismatic—a perfect mix for the show. I think the Traitors would struggle to get rid of him because he’s so genuine and clever.”

“You can’t just fill it with towering intellects like Susie Dent, Richard Osman, and Stephen Fry—amazing as they are—because their sheer brilliance might intimidate the other contestants and lead to their banishment right away. It’s all about finding the right mix of personalities to keep the game unpredictable and exciting.”

Paul also praised The Traitors as a transformative force in British television, noting that “The Traitors is, without a doubt, one of the best British television series in the past decade—possibly ever!” he said. “It’s set a new standard for reality TV.

The Traitors concludes on Friday 24th January at 8.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer. But will viewers see the Faithful weed out all the Traitors and be victorious, or will the Traitors remain undetected, and take the life changing sum of money of up to £120,000?

Paul Gorton:

“Unlike Big Brother or Love Island – which are great in their own right – The Traitors brings a level of strategy and suspense that’s unmatched. Just look at the numbers: Love Island All Stars recently had 750,000 viewers, while the Traitors Uncloaked with Ed Gamble pulls in three to four million listeners. It’s not just the series itself—it’s the ecosystem around it that’s genius. We’re only three seasons in as well – so who knows how big it will be five years down the line?”

For fans who want even more, The Traitors US, Series 3 will be descending upon BBC iPlayer following the finale on Friday, where the first 5 episodes will be available to stream after Uncloaked. In addition to all this, the BBC is excited to bring the first UK celebrity series to screens later in the year.
