On this Day 1972: Birmingham’s Poached Egg style pedestrian crossing

OTD, January 21st 1972…

John Swallow reported about a new pedestrian crossing on the Meadway in Birmingham, nicknamed by local people the ‘Poached Egg‘ due to its appearance.

Views of pedestrian crossing on the Meadway in the Lea Hall area of Birmingham and people using it. John speaks with local people who are unhappy with the crossing which is considered to be dangerous because it has beacons – but no road markings.

John also talks with a local councillor who defends the design and ATV Today also catch up with a policeman who confirms the crossing style and layout is not legal.
