BBC put more programmes out for competitive tender

Fake or Fortune, This Farming Life, Rip Off Britain and CBeebies Specials are looking for production companies…

The BBC has announced that Fake or Fortune, This Farming Life, Rip Off Britain and CBeebies Specials will be the next shows offered for competitive tender.

While the Beeb will retain all rights to these programmes and continue broadcasting them, the tendering process will determine which production company will create them. BBC Commissioning will invite proposals from producers, providing a detailed list of eligibility criteria and requirements for each show to all potential suppliers.

David Pembrey, Chief Operating Officer of BBC Content:

“These are four outstanding programmes rooted in public-service values that support production and skills across the UK. Opening them to competition reflects our commitment to delivering maximum value for our audiences.”

This move is part of the corporation’s obligation under the Charter and Agreement to increase competition for its TV programmes, a process initiated with the launch of the Compete or Compare strategy in 2014.

Details of the requirements for each show will be included in the invitation to tender, which will be published in the coming weeks, allowing suppliers sufficient time to conduct research and prepare their submissions.
