Another departure from the Salford based saga…
Paddy Bever, who plays Max Turner is the latest actor to depart Coronation Street, a tabloid newspaper this evening has revealed. The Mirror report that Bever is leaving the long running thrice weekly serial to ‘try his hand at other roles’ and the 22-year-old has already filmed his departure storyline for The Street with scenes due to be shown on ITV1 and STV in early spring.
Max has been part of some of the key Corrie storylines in recent years and resides with David (Jack P. Shepherd) as part of the Platt family. Max is the orphaned son of Kylie Platt and Callum Logan and the half-brother of Lily and Harry Platt. Kylie married David, and despite her death David has remained Max’s father figure. Paddy Bever took over from Harry McDermott in the role in 2021.
“After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.” – Max Turner, speaking to The Mirror

Paddy is the latest in an increasing list of departures from The Street which turns 65 in December. Earlier this week it was announced that Shelley King had become the latest star to quit Coronation Street. Shelley has already filmed her final scenes as Yasmeen Nazir which will air in March. In other departures last week, Colson Smith shared news on social media his character of Craig Tinker has been axed, while the soap aired Luca Toolan’s final scenes as the reformed school bully Mason Radcliffe, who tragically lost his life to a knife attack from his abusive brothers.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Sue Cleaver had stepped down from her role as Eileen Grimshaw after 25 years, while Christmas marked the end of Helen Worth’s time as Gail Platt after an impressive 50 years.
It is believed that Coronation Street is facing financial challenges, leading to the decision to let go of several cast members to help manage costs. Lisa George departed as Beth Tinker over the summer, and Sue Devaney is expected to leave her role as Debbie Webster at the conclusion of a dementia storyline.
In other departure news from The Street it has been reported, also by The Mirror, that Lee Rayner, who has served as Head of Production on the show for over a decade is leaving the cobbles for E4’s Hollyoaks, which is produced by Lime Pictures in Liverpool.
