Emmerdale tease February ‘car crash at a frozen lake’

There’s been trouble on icey lakes in Emmerdale in the past, but never this dramatic…

As temperatures plunge and ice takes hold across Britain, the Emmerdale production team has unveiled a dramatic preview of what’s to come this February, promising a treacherous start to the year for some of the village’s beloved characters.

Emmerdale Producer Laura Shaw:

“With winter nights having drawn in, our audience are enjoying cosy nights indoors whilst our fantastic team at Emmerdale have been recording gripping drama to bring to their screens. The stunning backdrop of the village, from its rugged woodland to its wilder landscapes, set the perfect stage for what’s to come.”

The gripping storyline features a terrifying car crash and a frozen lake, with multiple lives hanging in the balance. In a haunting flash-forward sequence, released this new year, viewers glimpsed a desperate hand breaking through the icy gloom of the frozen water, grasping for survival. The question on everyone’s lips: whose hand is it, and will they survive?

The spectacular series of stunts, filmed during night shoots before Christmas, required the expertise of a specialist special effects company to create a perilous frozen lake at the village’s edge.

Emmerdale Producer Laura Shaw:

“I’m thrilled for our audience to experience these episodes as they unfold, taking them on a chilling—quite literally—and perilous journey across the frozen ice.”

The production team remains tight-lipped about which characters are involved in the dramatic scenes that air next month. Those with long memories will recall Victoria Sugden also had a dice with disaster on a frozen lake when she fell through thawing ice in 2008.

Emmerdale airs every weekday at 7.30 pm on ITV1, STV and STV Player and is available each morning from 7 am on ITVX.
