The Masked Singer sees three celebrities depart

Three names were unmasked over two episodes this weekend…

The Masked Singer UK returned to ITV1 and STV last night with a brand-new batch of celebrities putting on flamboyant costumes in an attempt to fool the panel and viewers at home.  Broadcaster and entrepreneur Maya Jama joined the panel for this series, alongside season regulars Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan and host Joel Dommett.

In a shock twist fans saw Giant Joel unmasked as celebrated Olympian Mo Farah. Speaking of his brief time on the show Mo said, “It’s been incredible.”

“Having Giant Joel as a character on the show.  It’s just wonderful, I can’t believe it’s a thing.  It’s absolutely insane. And just the likeness of it, it’s mad how it’s been made. It’s the narcissist’s dream! “Host, Joel Dommett

Tonight, a double elimination saw two more costume donned stars say goodbye having had to ‘take it off’. Maya Jama, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan were joined by actress and one of TV’s favourite detectives Vicky McClure as a guest panellist.

Took them off: LR: Spag Bol was Kate Garraway | Giant Joel was Mo Farah and Pegasus was Dame Prue Leith

The first unmasking saw Spag Bol revealed as Smooth Radio and Good Morning Britain regular Kate Garraway. Talking about her time on the show Kate said, “I can’t sing and I kept telling them (the production team) that and they said it doesn’t matter.”

Speaking on where she’d like to wear her costume Kate noted, “I think the House of Commons.  I’m thinking next time I’m in the House of Commons, it’s probably what politicians need right now is a large foam Spaghetti Bolognese with old women inside it singing loudly.   I think that might be the way for politics!”

The second celebrity taking off their mask was culinary expert Dame Prue Leith who appeared as Pegasus. Talking about her time on the show, Dame Prue said, “I have say this is the most amazing experience.  I’ve never sung a note.  I’m tone deaf.  I have been having lessons and I’ve got slowly able to at least make a noise.”

Next week’s show will see Puffer Fish, Toad In The Hole, Wolf, Bush and Bear return to stage to fool the panel and viewers at home, but someone has to ‘take it off’ once again. The After Mask, hosted by Harriet Rose, brings more TMS news and chat over on ITVX.

The Masked Singer, Saturdays at 7pm on ITV1 and STV. Also on ITVX and the STV Player
