OTD, January 2nd 1976…
John Swallow spoke with Alf Langford about the different types of decorative ropes he made and the reasons why he completely changed his lifestyle from working in a Tipton factory to living on the canals.
Alf gives in the report a demonstration of how to make the knots for the fenders, including the making of a hangman’s noose. Langford, a canal boatman, made his living by making decorative ropes for canal boats.
