Bertie Carvel recently returned as the inimitable Dalgliesh in the popular telly drama series – based on P.D. James’ bestselling and award-winning detective novels.
Now, Dalgliesh Series 3 has this week (December 23rd) arrived on DVD and digital, following its broadcast on Channel 5, along with the Dalgliesh Series 1 – 3 DVD Box Set, courtesy of Acorn Media International. The new editions have brought plenty of gripping and complex cases to screen.
Dedicated to solving crimes and bringing killers to justice, the cunning and intellectual detective Adam Dalgliesh (Carvel), follows in the footsteps of distinguished detectives such as Sherlock Holmes and Poirot. Each series is adapted from three novels, tracing the sleuth’s expansive crime-fighting career.
Every case features a unique setting and a stellar cast of guests.
Dalgliesh Series 3 follows the enigmatic investigator and poet, Commander Adam Dalgliesh, as he tackles three highly charged and sensitive cases across different parts of England in 1979, on the cusp of Margaret Thatcher’s victory.
In Death in Holy Orders, he investigates the gruesome murder of a senior churchman in a seminary in West Sussex – an institution already engulfed in scandal. In Cover Her Face, a murder in the house of a wealthy and influential family brings him to the heart of Essex. Devices and Desires sees the wily detective investigate a string of killings in Kent, suspected to be the work of anti-nuclear campaigners.
Each gripping case unfolds over two episodes, with Carlyss Peer (Grantchester) reprising her role as Dalgliesh’s noble assistant, DS Kate Miskin, while Alistair Brammer (Les Misérables) returns as DS Daniel Tarrant. Additionally, Carvel makes his directorial debut in this thrilling series.
The new series features guest stars including Anton Lesser (Endeavour), Lloyd Owen (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Claire Goose (Silverpoint), Liz White (The Long Shadow), Adam James (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), Richard Lintern (Silent Witness), Ellora Torchia (The Gold), Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London), Soni Razdan (War) and Josie Walker (Belfast).
