A new study has revealed the most viral costumes for pets ahead of Christmas 2024, with the Grinch costume topping the ranking. Experts at the pet accessories shop, Fur King, analysed the average online search volume for each festive pet costume to determine the most popular outfit choices this Christmas.
The costumes with the highest average online searches then determined the final ranking.
Tom Sadler, the founder of Fur King:
“While pet costumes are a fun way to celebrate the festive season, it’s important to be cautious when choosing to dress up your furry friends this Christmas. To keep your pets safe and happy over the festive period, it’s essential to ensure that all costumes allow your pet to move freely and do not contain any choking hazards, such as dangling material that can be torn off. “
‘Dog Grinch costume’ takes the top spot in the ranking, with an impressive total online search volume of 1,398. Released back in 2000, How the Grinch Stole Christmas has become one of the most iconic Christmas movies of all time. Tom Sadler, the founder of Fur King:
“Never leave your pet unsupervised while wearing costumes, as this increases the risk of injury and discomfort. It’s also important to recognise the signs of discomfort in pets, such as becoming aggravated or overheated. For example, if a dog is becoming overheated, their panting will start to rapidly increase and they may begin to drool or vomit excessively. If you’re planning to dress up your pets this Christmas, it’s always a good idea to get them acquainted with the costume before the big day. This will allow them to feel more comfortable, reducing distress.
“It’s also important to allow your pets to only wear costumes for a short period of time to reduce the risk of them becoming overwhelmed and dangerously overheated.”
