Jason Derulo talks music and Make-a-Wish

This morning on Good Morning Britain, musician and social media sensation Jason Derulo was in the studio with Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley…

Jason discussed fatherhood, his substantial social media presence and his collaboration with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Speaking about his music and how his three-year-old son, Jason, plays a huge part in choosing which songs make the cut, Jason said, “He doesn’t know how to lie yet, so if he doesn’t like something he’s going to let you know. I always play things in the car and get a vibe for it, and see whether he likes it or if he really gravitates to it. Those always end up being the songs that everybody else gravitates to too. He’s going to let you know, he’s not going to be ‘Ah it’s okay’, he’s gonna be like, ‘Yes or no’ – there’s no middle ground.”

Continuing to talk about fatherhood, Jason added, “Oh my god, it honestly really just puts things into perspective. We all care about ourselves, right? And we’re trying to get ourselves to the next level, we’re trying to get ourselves the goals and everything that we want in our lives but having a son, everything has changed and it’s all about him. How do I help him accomplish his goals? How do I create a path for him? And it’s just been amazing, reliving my childhood, so to speak.”

Jason also opened up about the release of his new single Make Me Happy, and working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Judah, a 14-year-old songwriter with Cystic Fibrosis.

Jason said: “I feel like Make-A-Wish has a knack for creating amazing experiences for the most deserving children in the world and so in partnership with my song, I wanted to help make as amazing wishes come true as possible. Judah’s wish was to make some music in an ultra-amazing recording studio, because he makes songs in his room.”

Sharing how much the experience meant to him, Jason added: “I thought it was going to be an amazing experience just for him, but it ended up being an incredible experience for me and I just had the best time creating [music] with him.”
