Brits have voted for the UNCOOLEST home décor trends, in the modern age…
Uncool decor and items include taxidermy (30 percent), plastic flowers or plants (32 percent), lace curtains (27 percent), fluffy loo seat covers (27 percent) – or bohemian artefacts such as African masks (17 percent).
White faux leather sofas are also the height of “uncool”, according to 19 percent of young Brits, while shag pile rugs (14 percent), magnolia walls (12 percent) and a “Beware of the dog sign” also made the list of home decoration no-nos.
But topping the list of sins, was a coloured bathroom suite, such as brown, avocado or salmon pink, with 44 percent agreeing there is no place for that sort of décor in the modern world. According to the research, by Terry’s Fabrics, 62 percent of Brits are guilty of judging the interiors of other people’s homes.
Paul McGuiness, CEO at Terrys:
“This research shows how much we care about our homes – even if we sometimes make bad decisions. Our new ViSULiZR app stems from years of customers making mistakes decorating their home! It has been designed to help people choose patterns and colours, scan the room and visualise how a blind or curtain will look in reality. Giving people the flexibility and freedom to see a product in situ, at home – without the need for a potentially risky imagination!”
While half of us (50 percent) have based an opinion of someone based on their interior design choices. Regionally the worst interior designers are in Glasgow (78 percent admit they have no eye for it).
Yet if you are currently committing one of the 20 home décor fails, then don’t worry because 89 percent of those surveyed believe ALL interior trends come back in fashion again in the long run. Also, while traditionally it may have been the preserve of women, nowadays 78 percent of men say that they are interested in interiors.
Overall, 85 percent of Brits enjoy interior design and 64 percent proactively keep up with trends. In fact, on average, Brits spend 69 days a year wondering about how they can update their homes, spending an average of £1,508 on interiors every year – adding up over £2.9bn* a year across the country.
