Poetry phenomenon and British cult legend Dr John Cooper Clarke announces new UK tour: In Celebration of World Poetry Day.
Dr John will return to the stage for three very special performances, starting at The London Palladium on Wednesday 19th March followed by Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall on Friday 21st March (World Poetry Day 2025). The Salford born legend will then bring his tour home for a historic performance at Manchester’s Co-op Live where he is set to become the first-ever poet to headline an arena here in the UK.
Fans can expect a one-of-a-kind journey through poetry by one of the world’s most important and entertaining spoken word artists. Performing classic numbers including Chickentown and Beasley Street as well as brand new material from the new collection “WHAT”, John will bring his unique perspective and incredible work to his biggest audiences yet – with plenty of laughs along the way. John will also be joined by special guests on each night of the tour including the wonderfully talented John Agard (London), Henry Normal (Nottingham) and Linkton Kewesi Johnson (Manchester).
The tour news follows the announcement that Co-op has joined forces with Dr John Cooper Clarke to celebrate its unique partnership with the UK’s largest live entertainment arena – Co-op Live – with a poem that plays tribute to the city of Manchester, its people, and the venue.
The ‘Proper Sound’ poem highlights the enduring connection between Co-op and Manchester, emphasising the impact of Co-op’s presence in the community over the years. The poem was written in Clarke’s signature punk style, declaring that ‘a town is not a proper town without the old Co-op around’. Listen to the ‘Proper Sound’ poem HERE.
