A Showbiz round up of the good, the okay and Jeremy Kyle…
It came as no surprise this week that an inquest into the suicide of Steve Dymond – a week after appearing on The Jeremy Kyle Show – found “insufficient evidence” to rule that participating in the programme caused his death. The fact of the matter is he should never have been allowed on the bear bating circus of a show in the first place, considering clearly the unstable way he was at the time.
What is pretty appalling however is the ‘I’m so innocent’ statement from Kyle in an almost Donald Trump style. Let’s face it, the show may not of caused his death – but it certainly didn’t help him in any way what so ever considering how soon after it the fella topped himself. An awful show that was highlighted at just how bad it was in the clips shown as part of the inquest. How many times did we hear Kyle say on the programme it was ‘his show’ it was ‘his name’ up on the wall? So if you can dish it out you certainly should have been a little more humble in taking the fact a man died after being on your titled show, a series he really should never have been allowed on. Thankfully the world, and the world of TV, has moved on from such ‘laugh at the poor people’ programming.
But let’s remember if this hadn’t have happened ITV would have been very happy to carry on airing it, and that’s a real tragedy…
The coroner noted, “The deceased’s decision to take his own life was made in the context of his mental distress that was probably exacerbated by his belief that a significant relationship had now irretrievably broken down following his participation on a television programme where it had been suggested that the deceased had lied to his partner.”
Kyle now works for the bastion of quality and truth, Rupert Murdoch…
So many sacking from Hollyoaks over the past few months. Some decided to take Lime Pictures offer of suggesting they had ‘decided to quit’ while others took the option to be honest and admit they’d been sacked. And maybe one or two did genuinely quit as changes sweep through the North West based saga.
One actor taking the option to reveal he was chopped is Gregory Finnegan who told The Sun that he broke down in tears after he was axed from the Channel 4 soap. The newspaper also went on to discuss how the performer slams bosses for how they handled it. Finnegan played James Nightingale for nine years, but was bumped off when a boobie-trapped car was exploded by a bomb.
“People seemed shocked which was nice in it’s own way but at the same time quite depressing when people are coming up to you saying ‘I can’t believe it, that’s ridiculous’ you’re like, okay, I’ve dealt with it. Everyone was very kind in both the cast and crew. It wasn’t much fun going in when you know you’re a dead man walking.
“Lovely Alex Fletcher just stared at me, then she started crying and I started crying. I was like, ‘Fletch you’ve got to stop, because I haven’t cried at all, and this was weeks after it had happened but she just completely broke me, and then I was bawling. But it’s good to get it out. People dealt with it in different ways, a lot of people didn’t say anything for a while because they didn’t know what to say, they keep their jobs. There’s no ill feeling, it’s no-ones fault, the more upfront people were the easier I found to deal with it.”
Hollyoaks has unleashed a new version of the theme tune, opening titles and jumped a year in the plots – something Crossroads did in 2003 and saw the long-running motel soap axed after five months thanks to that flop revamp.

Jay Blades has been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour against his estranged wife Sky News reported. The news channel noted, ‘The 54-year-old appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court and was bailed until another court appearance next month.’ adding ‘The alleged behaviour includes physical and emotional abuse, according to court documents.’
Blades entered into matrimony with fitness instructor Lisa Zbozen in November 2022 in Barbados. However, in May, she expressed feeling “broken” after taking a bag of belongings and departing from their residence. West Mercia Police reported that he was charged on Thursday following their response to an address on May 3, the day subsequent to Ms. Zbozen’s Instagram post, which prompted the initiation of an investigation.
There have been fourteen series of The Repair Shop thus far, with the show first airing in 2017. There have also been a host of specials including for charity and Blades has also hosted Touring Toolshed with Sir David Jason for the BBC and Jay Blade’s East End Through Time for Channel 5.
Ali Bastian this week told a magazine she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The actress who was one of the regular cast of Channel 4’s Hollyoaks between 2001 and 2007 –says she was diagnosed with stage two cancer after discovering a lump while breastfeeding.
Speaking to OK Magazine she said “It was a total shock,” adding, “I have mornings when I wake up and I’ve forgotten… and then suddenly I remember. I’m still trying to process it.” The 44-year-old went on to note, “I will get through this and come out the other side,”
‘The BBC director-general has said that he is not giving up on the pursuit of £200,000 paid to Huw Edwards after his arrest last year, and that the corporation may have to become more “muscular” and stop paying staff if they are suspended.’ The Guardian newspaper reported.
It probably would just be a good idea if the Beeb stopped employing nonces and perverts. I mean we could compile a Top of the Pops style chart run down of pedos and pervs across the local and national offering. Of course it is difficult to spot a vile cretin when they’re good at hiding such things. I do wonder how Jimmy Saville would have faired if he’d been fingered by the cops while still alive – would he have played the mental health card too? I mean lets face it Jimmy was utterly insane and allowed to be so for decades. I’m still not certain when he went nuts, but I’m feeling probably the mid-1970s. As for Huw, pay back the money you dirty f**ker. Do the right thing for once.
The Guardian noted that Tim Davie, appearing at the House of Lords communications and digital committee had made inroads to asking Edwards to refund the money funded for by the telly tax.
