Waterloo Road opens its doors again this September

Back to school with BBC One…

The Beeb has announced that rebooted school drama Waterloo Road will return to screens on Tuesday 10 September, with an eight-part series to air in hour-long slots on BBC One. The episodes of the new series will also debut on the iPlayer first on the day of transmission at 6am, and episode one airing on TV at 9pm.

The latest series will see the arrival of Jason Manford to the show as he becomes the new headteacher, Steve Savage, a charismatic charmer who impresses everyone he meets and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty to achieve the results he wants.

September’s series will be the fourth since Waterloo Road returned to screens in 2023 – and with its new academy status, new school building, and the arrival of Steve Savage, the education facility sees a changing of the guard. Battling some expected teething problems, the students and teachers attempt to find their feet and make big decisions that affect their future at the school. But when a chain of unfortunate circumstances – and one bad choice – turns lives into chaos, there are tragic repercussions for everyone at the school.

Waterloo Road is set, and produced, in Greater Manchester.
