Radio X present ‘Tarrant vs the Thames’

The ‘Tarrant vs the Thames’ challenge will see Radio X’s mid-morning presenter Toby Tarrant power a pedalo for 56 demanding miles down the meandering might of the River Thames, all in aid of raising money for Global’s Make Some Noise.

Putting his mind, body and soul to the test, Toby will at least be travelling in style – on a bespoke, eye-catching Radio X pedalo crafted to look like a unicorn!

Toby Tarrant:

“I mean, I’ve done some mad things in my time, many of which aren’t safe for radio, but I have never attempted anything on this scale before. I am so up for this though. Training has begun and I’ve already spent some time in the pedalo, getting a feel for things, and I just want October 7th to get here now to be honest. It’s going to be tough going on my lanky legs, but I want to push myself to the limit if it means raising money for the vital community projects that Global’s Make Some Noise funds.”

While the average amount of time a person spends on a pedalo in a single session is around 30 minutes, the challenge will see Toby take on an enormous feat of physical and mental endurance, pedalling for an exhausting eight hours a day consistently for five days straight. Pushing him to the physical limit, Toby will also have to navigate the winding River Thames’ strong currents and unpredictable weather conditions.

Toby Tarrant is taking on the challenge in aid of Radio X’s charity, Global’s Make Some Noise, which is changing lives across the UK by funding vital projects delivered by small charities – tackling issues such as mental health, poverty and homelessness.

Suzanne Ryder-Richardson, Director of Global Goodness:

“We’re thrilled that Toby will be taking on this unique challenge for Global’s Make Some Noise. Every donation to support Toby in his challenge will allow us to make a real difference to lives across the UK through the amazing projects that we are proud to support, so it’s wonderful to have Toby and Radio X’s support. Thank you also to those who are able to donate and support this challenge, you will help us to change even more lives”

Launching on Monday 7th of October, Toby will begin the challenge at Henley-on-Thames and will finish five days later on Friday 11th of October at Walton-on-Thames.

Matt Deverson, Managing Editor for Radio X:

“Toby’s always up for a challenge and always up for the ridiculous, so we knew this would be up his street. Toby has found even more motivation following an inspirational visit to one of the projects funded by Global’s Make Some Noise. We’re so excited to follow him along his journey on Radio X as he pedals down the River Thames. We’ll be checking in with him regularly across the station for updates, cheering him on the whole way. Best of luck, Toby!”
