Researchers have revealed the items Brits find it hardest to leave the country without, with British teabags (44 percent), biscuits (40 percent), coffee (37 percent), Marmite (seven percent) and slippers (35 percent) all making the list.
Over a third (30 percent) of hygienic Brits insist on packing anti-bacterial spray, while pillows (21 percent), tins of beans (17 percent) and your own pots and pans (six percent) also emerged as things we hate to travel without. A sixth (16 percent) will make sure they take a loaf of their favourite bread, according to the poll by M&S Travel Insurance.
Despite four in ten (42 percent) admitting that their family and friends tease them about the household things they take on holiday with them, four in ten (37 percent) claim it’s important to remember these things, in case the destination they’re visiting doesn’t have them. One in three (34 percent) simply want to be able to enjoy their favourite food and snacks, when on holiday.
Half of organised Brits love to pack a week before a holiday, however the most common things to forget include suncream (20 percent), phone chargers (19 percent), sunglasses (18 percent), travel adaptors (17 percent) and toiletries (16 percent).
One in five (19 percent) admit that leaving their packing to the last minute has resulted in them missing items, while a further 18 percent said they have been so excited to go away that they inevitably forget things.
Nic Moran, from travel money and travel insurance provider, M&S Bank:
“Planning a holiday is an exciting time and even though many of us will have been thinking about our next break for quite some time, it’s still easy to forget certain things. It sounds simple, but making a list of everything you intend to take or sort pre-trip – paying particular attention to your passport if travelling abroad, along with tickets, travel money and insurance – can ensure that you’re well prepared and can spend more time relaxing on your getaway, when it comes around.”
On average, it costs British holidaymakers £140 to replace the items they’ve left behind when away, leaving over half of us annoyed (52 percent) and frustrated (46 percent), with one in five (19 percent) saying they feel a wave of panic when they realise they’ve left something at home.
Nearly a third (29 percent) have found themselves hunting out a shop as soon as they land in order to buy replacement items, while a further 27 percent have had to purchase bits at the airport.
And weighing luggage stresses us out as 31 percent have had to pay extra because their bag was too heavy, with 31 percent even taking items out to get to the right weight.
