Rosie Webster actress 4/6 for third stint on show…
Helen Flanagan has been heavily backed to return as Rosie Webster on Coronation Street in the coming months, according to betideas.com. Following an array of social media rumours last week that she’d agreed for a third stint on the ITV programme, Flanagan is odds-on at 4/6 to appear on the show again.
Should Flanagan opt for an alternative British soap, she is 5/1 to join the Emmerdale cast, 7/2 to defect to E4 and appear on Hollyoaks, or 12/1 for a stint on BBC’s EastEnders.
Lee Astley, spokesperson for betideas.com:
“Speculation around Helen Flanagan’s next move in television is rife following a series of social media clues and some fans are convinced that Rosie Webster is set for another return to the Coronation Street cast.
“Flanagan is therefore 4/6 to appear on the ITV show again, which is the leading selection in what’s next for the actress, including joining the cast of Hollyoaks (7/2), Emmerdale (5/1) and EastEnders (12/1).”
Away from acting Flanagan has ventured into other areas, notably fashion, when in 2020 she launched her first clothing range with Chi Chi London and later in the year worked with Pour Moi on a lingerie range.
Helen has played Rosie in The Street on-and-off since she was nine and for many years had little to do other than enjoy her mother’s fish fingers as part of the troubled Webster family headed by Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Sally (Sally Whittaker). She first quit the soap in 2012 before returning on-screen in early 2017 for a second stint.
Original storylines saw the character in the Weatherfield spotlight including as a young teenager dating neighbour Craig Harris, played by Richard Fleeshman, and the pair transformed themselves into ‘Goths’ – although real Goths were not impressed with the portrayal. This phase didn’t last long and Rosie turned to glamour, after being introduced to the world of ‘knickers and bras’ at the Underworld factory where she found a job in the office.
While also studying her A-levels she became romantically entangled with teacher John Stape – actor Graeme Hawley – who eventually kidnapped her keeping her in his late grandmother’s attic.
Stape was sent to prison and Rosie decided to make money out of her ordeal by posing for some saucy snaps and selling her story to a newspaper. She later lost her money in a con concerning the Underworld factory, resulting in her trying to boost her finances by blackmailing Stape who had returned to Weatherfield, much to the distaste of Kevin and Sally, by demanding £50,000. He refused and she made false claims he’d attacked her. She was later proved to have made it up and this led to a truce between Stape and the Websters.
Rosie later turned to topless modelling, much to the distaste of her parents, however, it made a ‘star’ of the Weatherfield girl, who then moved onto glamour shoots and it is this storyline that saw Rosie depart the cobbles the first time around – when she headed off to become a reality TV star.
