ITN Productions has secured its first car restoration format commission for Warner Bros. Discovery UK and Ireland.
The eight-episode series, Ant Anstead: The Naked Mechanic, combines the intricacies of car restoration with the take outs of home renovation. The programme will follow motor specialist Ant Anstead, widely known for his work on Master Mechanic and Wheeler Dealers, who has bought a home for his Mum and Dad.
Ant Anstead:
“I am so excited to finally be sharing this project. This is a huge scary leap for me, a reality show that shares my family and this crazy ambitious dream. Its also perfect timing to reunite with Jeremy a decade after making my first ever TV show, placing this project that close to my heart in safe hands. And an exciting start for a new wave of automotive shows for ITN. Watch this space.”
The home however is a 500-year-old farmhouse in rural Bedfordshire that is in desperate need of repair. Ant discovers very quickly that the only thing more unpredictable than restoring classic cars is restoring a heritage house. To help pay for the spiralling costs of the home renovation, Ant is going to do what he does best; buy, restore and sell old cars, including a Land Rover Series 3, Alfa Romeo Alfasud and Jaguar XJS, with a hope to turn some profit to put towards helping fund the home renovation.
The series reunites Ant Anstead with Jeremy Daldry, Deputy Head of UK Factual at ITN, who first worked together in Ant’s TV debut on For the Love of Cars in 2014.
Jeremy Daldry:
“It is massively exciting for ITN to be creating a major series, in a new genre for us, and one that pairs Ant’s infectious enthusiasm and knowledge with his skills as a superb mechanic. There are few people who understand cars as well as Ant.”
Ant Anstead: The Naked Mechanic is currently in production and will air on Quest later this year.
