Bristol backdrop for Jatt & Juliet 3

Jatt & Juliet 3, the latest movie in Punjabi cinema’s biggest franchise, will premiere in cinemas worldwide on 27th June, after filming extensively across Bristol last year with support from the city’s Film Office.

Producer Manmord Singh Sidhu:

“Filming in Bristol was a fantastic experience. The city is incredibly film-friendly, with ideal locations that added a larger-than-life landscape to our film. Shooting at the Bristol Marina, Cascade Steps and Bristol City Hall among other locations in the city brought a unique grandeur to our scenes. The people of Bristol were exceptionally cooperative, which was crucial for us, especially while filming with a global superstar like Diljit Dosanjh.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Bristol Film Office for their outstanding support, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable filming process. With a crew of 80 people, we filmed in Bristol for a month, and the city’s hospitality and infrastructure were top-notch. We look forward to filming our upcoming projects in Bristol.”

Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa, one of the best loved on-screen Punjabi couples, Jatt & Juliet 3 follows two cops who travel to the UK for a case. A battle of wits begins when Fateh (Dilit Dosanjh) joins the police force and meets his charming boss, Pooja (Neeru Bajwa), sparking a romantic comedy of unexpected twists. The film is written and directed by Jagdeep Sidhu. Other cast includes Rana Ranbir, B.N. Sharma, Nasir Chinyoti, Hardeep Gill, Akram Udas and Jasmin Bajwa. Jatt & Juliet 3 is produced by White Hill Studios and Speed Records in association with Storytime Productions.

The filmmakers used a host of city centre locations throughout November 2023, including Clare Street and nearby Corn Street in the Old City, Cascade Steps, City Hall, Assembly Room Lane, Christmas Markets at Broadmead, Merchant Street, Narrow Quay, Castle Park, Pero’s Bridge and both inside and outside The Architect Café Bar. The video for the movie’s official track ‘Haye Juliet’ features the ‘mini-Punjab’ created for the movie as well as Bristol’s Christmas Markets, Millennium Square and Anchor Square.

Laura Aviles, Head of Film, Bristol City Council:

“Indian features made in the UK represent an increasingly significant portion of British film production each year, underpinned by a co-production agreement that has been in force between the UK and India governments since 2008. Bristol has hosted Bollywood many times over the years, but Jatt & Juliet 3 is definitely the largest and highest profile Indian film shoot the city has accommodated to date. It’s so exciting that Bristol is a primary setting in this global blockbuster, and testament to the great service provided by Bristol Film Office that the crew and cast were so well supported on the streets during the shoot, which definitely caused a buzz among local Pollywood fans.”

Further afield, filming also took place in the Costwolds at Snowshill village and Broadway Tower. The video for the movie’s romantic song ‘Je Main Rab Hunda’ was filmed at Tintern Abbey in nearby Monmouthshire.

Anticipation for the third instalment has been high among fans of the Punjabi-language franchise. Released in 2012, the first movie was a box office hit that won multiple awards at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards 2013 including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. The sequel, Jatt & Juliet 2, was released the following year becoming the highest-grossing Punjabi film ever made.

Jatt & Juliet 3 is released on 27th June 2024 in cinemas worldwide.
