Award-winning dancer, choreographer and director Akram Khan explores the transformative power of movement in a brand-new podcast, Move to Live…
Akram Khan:
“As a dancer, choreographer and director, I’ve made movement my life’s work. I’m fascinated by how the way we move affects the way we live, and how the way we live shapes our movement. I’ve loved having this opportunity to explore this on the podcast with some truly wonderful guests, and hope it inspires others to think more about their relationship to movement and dance.”
Produced by Marquee TV and Tandem Productions Akram delves into the lives of top actors, artists, musicians and dancers, revealing how movement fuels their creativity and wellbeing in a series of insightful conversations. The podcast will be available to listen to on all podcast platforms, and a filmed video edition of the podcast will also be available to view on Marquee TV, with one episode released per week from Wednesday 5 June.
Akram interviews a range of high-profile guests including actor Andy Serkis, artist and stage designer Es Devlin, musician and author Izzy Judd, actor Khalid Abdalla, Principal of the Royal Ballet Francesca Hayward, and actress and director Kathryn Hunter. The first episode also features an interview with Akram himself, interviewed by Marquee TV’s Director of Content Susannah Simons, exploring his philosophies around movement, how it helps him communicate, and his concerns for future generations if dance and movement continue to be neglected in the school curriculum.
The podcast also represents another strand of a successful collaboration between Akram Khan and Marquee TV; his work Giselle for the English National Ballet is one of the most popular dance titles on the platform, and he was recently a guest curator on Marquee TV, putting together a collection of his favourite titles.
This original podcast joins an extensive collection of dance, music, opera, theatre and visual arts content on Marquee TV, curating a rich mix of the world’s greatest artists in their greatest performances, from the contemporary and cutting-edge to the classics. The platform showcases world-class performances from some of the biggest names in arts and culture including the Royal Shakespeare Company, London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Washington Ballet, Teatro alla Scala, The Royal Ballet and Opera and much more.
Susannah Simons, Director of Content at Marquee TV:
“It’s been wonderful to work with Akram on this new podcast and to explore the importance of movement in all our lives, and we’re so pleased to have been able to help him develop this other strand to his career. Whether they choose to listen by audio podcast or watch on Marquee TV, I hope audiences enjoy these enlightening conversations with some fascinating people.”
The first episode of Move to Live will be available on all podcast platforms and Marquee TV from Wednesday 5 June, with other episodes released weekly on Wednesdays from 5 June until 24 July.
