The Communications 80 Exhibition at the National Exhibition Centre, was taking place where the latest in phone and telecommunication gadgets were on show.
Reporter Richard Hudson-Evans brings viewers news of a new wireless mobile phone housed in a large suitcase. The feature then takes a look at some of the novelty telephones including a Mickey Mouse one that will become legal to use following the end of the Post Office monopoly on telephone equipment.
Hudson-Evans speaks with Robin Dudney, a telephone supplier, showing some of the latest styles in phones, including antique recreations. Finally, Ricahrd demonstrates how a letter can be sent by phone in an early version of a fax machine – although it replicates handwriting with a mechanical arm.
